Discord membership setup

Sell recurring access via a Discord role. Complete these steps before verifying in the membership wizard.

1. Invite the membership bot

Add the Billixi membership bot to your Discord server with the Manage Roles permission. If you self-host Billixi, use your Discord application bot invite URL with permission bit 268435456 (Manage Roles).

2. Create the membership role

In Server Settings → Roles, create a role for paying members (e.g. VIP Member). Do not use integration-managed roles (from other bots) — Billixi cannot assign those.

3. Fix role hierarchy

Still under Roles, drag the bot's role above the membership role. The bot can only assign roles that sit below its own highest role.

4. Copy Server ID and Role ID

Enable Developer Mode: User Settings → Advanced → Developer Mode. Right-click your server name → Copy Server ID. Right-click the membership role → Copy Role ID.

5. Verify in Billixi

In Dashboard → Products → Create membership → Discord, paste both IDs and tap Verify server & role. Complete the one-time administrator OAuth proof in Discord, return to the wizard, then tap Check connection. You should see Connected with your server and role names.

After buyers purchase

Buyers open Library → Connect Discord and approve OAuth. Billixi links their Discord account and assigns the membership role. When the subscription expires, the role is removed automatically.

Troubleshooting

  • Server not found — the bot is not in the server yet, or the Server ID is wrong. Invite the bot with Manage Roles, then copy the ID again.
  • Role not found — check the Role ID. Copy it from the role itself in Server Settings → Roles.
  • Bot not in server — use the bot invite link with Manage Roles and try again.
  • Missing Manage Roles — re-invite the bot or edit its server permissions.
  • Role hierarchy — move the bot role above the membership role in Server Settings → Roles.
  • Managed role — create a custom role for members instead of a bot/integration-managed role.
  • Bot not configured on the server — contact support on hosted Billixi; in self-hosted dev, set Discord:BotToken in Payment API config.
